EVENT INFORMATION
Before you
come along.
Our events bring together loud electronic music, movement and short guided breathing. Most people have a brilliant time. This page sets out honestly what the day involves, who it suits, and who should sit it out, so you can decide before you book.
Who our events are for
Anyone who loves electronic music and wants to experience it differently. You do not need any experience of breathwork, dance or clubbing. Plenty of people come on their own.
Please do not take part in the breathing if any of these apply
The guided breathing involves periods of faster breathing and short breath holds. That is not suitable for everyone. Do not take part in the breathing exercises, and speak to your GP before attending at all, if you:
- are pregnant
- have epilepsy or any history of seizures
- have a heart condition, or high or low blood pressure
- have had a stroke, aneurysm or brain haemorrhage
- have asthma or another respiratory condition
- have glaucoma or a detached retina
- have had recent surgery or a recent injury
- are being treated for a psychiatric condition, including psychosis, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia
- have any other condition you think may be affected by changes in breathing
This list is not exhaustive. If you are unsure, the safe answer is to skip the breathing and enjoy the music. Nobody will notice and nobody will mind.
You are welcome at the event whether or not you take part in the breathing. It is a small part of a day that is mostly about music.
Our events at fabric are strictly 18+. Bring photo ID, as you may be asked for it on the door.
What the environment is like
Our events take place in nightclubs and similar spaces. That means:
- Loud music at sustained volume. We recommend bringing ear protection, and we would rather you used it than did not.
- Low light, with bright and moving lighting effects. If you are sensitive to flashing lights, please read the note below.
- Crowds and close contact. Rooms are busy and you will be near other people.
- Standing and moving for long periods, with seating available away from the floor.
- Loud, sudden sound and bass you will feel physically.
Lighting and photosensitivity
Club lighting can include strobe and other rapid effects. If you have photosensitive epilepsy or are sensitive to flashing lights, please contact us before booking at info@houseofjung.org and we will tell you exactly what is planned for the room.
Filming and photography
We film and photograph our events for our own channels. By attending you may appear in that footage. If you would rather not, speak to a member of our team on the day and we will do our best to keep you out of shot.
About the breathing
At some of our events, short guided breathing and collective breath holds are woven into the music. A facilitator leads them and explains what to do each time.
Taking part is always optional. You can join in, hang back, sit down or keep dancing straight through. There is no right way to do it and nobody is watching.
Some people find the breathing produces light-headedness, tingling in the hands or face, or strong emotion. That is common and usually passes quickly. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, stop, breathe normally, and sit down.
Never do breathing exercises
- in or near water, including a pool, bath or the sea
- while driving or operating anything
- while standing somewhere you could fall
- if you have taken alcohol or drugs
Breathwork is not a treatment and is not a substitute for medical or mental health care. If you are receiving treatment for any condition, speak to your clinician before taking part.
On the day
Alcohol and drugs
Our Breath Rave events are alcohol-free. Soft drinks and water are available throughout. Anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be refused entry or asked to leave, and will not be able to take part in the breathing.
Looking after yourself
- Eat something beforehand, but not a heavy meal immediately before.
- Drink water through the day. Free water is always available.
- Wear something you can move in. Layers help; rooms get warm.
- Take breaks. There is space away from the floor whenever you want it.
Looking after each other
Our events are built on people feeling safe. Harassment, aggression and unwanted contact are not tolerated and will result in removal without refund. If anyone makes you uncomfortable, find a member of our team or any member of venue staff. You will be taken seriously.
Accessibility
We want people to be able to come. Access varies by venue, so rather than guess, tell us what you need at info@houseofjung.org and we will confirm exactly what that venue can offer before you book.
That includes step-free access, seating, quieter spaces, personal assistant tickets and anything else. Please get in touch early so we have time to arrange it properly.
If you feel unwell
Tell someone. Our team and the venue's staff are there for exactly this and would far rather help early than late.
- Stop what you are doing and sit down.
- Find a member of staff, or ask the person next to you to find one.
- Move away from the floor to a quieter area, with someone.
- If you are with friends, tell them how you are feeling.
There is no situation where you will be judged for stopping.
In a medical emergency, venue staff will call the emergency services. If you are at home and need urgent help, call 999, or 111 for non-emergency medical advice.
